Alaska

Brrrrr. It’s cold. Why is it so cold? Is my traveling box stuck in a refrigerator?

When my new host opened my box I understood why I was cold. I was in Alaska! It is not that there was snow on the ground because there wasn’t. It was just colder than I was used to, although it was a pleasant change from the 100 degree days in Texas. I did regret not bringing my blanket. At least my shipping boots keep my legs toasty.

The first place I visited was Seaward Alaska. It was a coastal town and I could see what I was told was the Pacific Ocean. I walked around the town and visited with some of the locals. One chap told me of a great place to watch the fishing boats come in and unload their catch.

I don’t know why he was so excited about the place. There were some big fish hitting those docks don’t get me wrong but it just wasn’t something I would normally go out of my way to see. Most of those fish were big enough to eat me and frankly they were scary!

After touring the town my host took me to his (yes I said his) home for a little rest and relaxation. He introduced me to something called Alaskan Amber. It was a drink made from grain. I had a few sips and really liked the taste. Strangely I don’t remember too much after that.

The next day I woke feeling awful! I thought I was going to colic. My host seemed quite amused at my illness but I didn’t see anything to laugh about. I stayed around his place the rest of the day because for the first time I didn’t feel like traveling much. The very thought made me sick.
