Florida

Today I arrived in South Florida; my host family came to pick me up from the post office and took me to their home near to the Florida Keys. I was very glad to get out of that dark box and into the fresh air. My host was very concerned that I may have been bumped during the flight from New York, but I assured her that I was all right and merely hungry after my long journey. After my refreshments I went to play outside with the cats who own my host. Biscuit the Garbage Cat showed me around the garden, I went for a lovely walk in a Papaya field right by the house, and then I went to the Orchid House to see my host's collection of Orchids. Even though it was very tempting (they smelled so good!) I didn't eat any of them. After my walk and a big dinner I was taken to meet my host's horses.. I almost died with fright! There were bodies everywhere and a thing called a "dremel". A very nice horse named Chocolate came and reassured me and explained everything! My host is a horse plastic surgeon! She takes Breyers and gives them nose jobs, liposuction and even leg surgery! I sat next to Atlanta, a roan Arab mare who'd just come out for surgery, she said she felt much more attractive since her leg and nose job! All of the horses were very nice to me, except for one, a Chestnut Arab Mare named Meela! She was terribly pretty, but terribly snooty and wouldn't even talk to me. Chocolat assured me that I shouldn't take it personally because she was rude to everyone! Tonight I get to share the display shelf with Chocolat because I will be safe here from the midnight antics of the cats. Tomorrow we're going to visit a Flea Market and look for something called Mangoes!

Wow.. today was a busy day, I got to cool out with some lemonade this evening and we had a cook out! I must say I'm enjoying trying all the different foods on my travels. This evening I ate WAY too much, I tried potato salad and baked corn, I think it went straight to my hindquarters! We got up early today, to go to the flea market before it got too hot. There were so many things for sale.. my host told me that she likes to go there to rescue Breyers sometimes! We bought a lot of fresh vegetables and plenty of fruit, and then I tried something called "Coco Frio!" We bought a coconut from a man who didn't speak any English and then he cut a hole in it and put a straw in for me! It was very funny; I've never tried anything quite like it before! My host's husband wanted to go to the pet store to look for a giant lizard, so we went along too. The pet store at the flea market was very noisy and hot, I felt bad for all the animals there. My host explained to me that she didn't like going there because she wanted to take ALL the animals home with her. As we were leaving the store, my host saw a little black rabbit who didn't look too well, so she asked the pet store owner if she could buy him. He seemed very happy to leave there and we took him back to the car in a box. We were just about to leave the market when we heard something crying. After a brief search I saw a tiny kitten and shouted to my host! It was all on its own in the parking lot; my host called it and it came running up to her. For some reason she didn't look at her husband after she picked it up and merely sat in the car and waited for him.
